Our History

The iGuardStove was developed in response to the need of Bill Ferguson, iGuardFire’s founder, to address the needs of his mother who had become ill. She was experiencing memory issues and low energy levels that affected her ability to safely use the stove and enjoy her favorite activity of cooking.

Bill realized, like many in the same situation trying to help aging family members safely stay in their homes, that smoke alarms were not adequate to protect his parents. He searched for a proactive solution, one that would prevent an unattended stove from starting a fire. Finding no product available to help his family and others with parents wanting to Age In Place, Bill took it upon himself to create a solution, the iGuardStove.

After developing a product that would enable his parents to remain independent and safe in their home, and give the family the peace of mind they needed, Bill made the product available to others. Over time, the iGuardStove capabilities have expanded from just ensuring that when the stove is being used that someone is nearby, to include high and low ambient room temperature sensing, excess gas sensing (for gas model) and the communication of information to family members and caregivers, by text and email, regarding the wellbeing of a family member.

The feature set expanded from serving people with cognitive memory issues, including Aging In Place seniors, and their family to being useful for property management organizations responsible for multifamily housing, student housing, and retirement communities.

As consumer demand has grown, we expanded our distribution channels and are now available from Amazon, Best Buy, Best Buy Canada, Crutchfield and through a number of SmartHome and commercial service providers for our B2B customers in the U.S. and Canada.
