My mother-in-law had dementia, but was determined to stay in her own home. Unfortunately, she did not want to employ a caregiver, so we were perplexed as to how to honour her wishes and keep her safe.
We made daily visits, but we also … More looked to technology to fill the gap. We installed web linked cameras all over the house, sewed tracking devices into her coats, got her a emergency lanyard, and installed an iGuardStove device.
The iGuardStove was very easy to install and operate. Not only did it give us the peace of mind that the house wouldn't be set on fire by a forgotten pot, but it had other benefits.
The motion detector told us what time she came into the kitchen every morning. It was a reliable indicator of her well-being. If we didn't get that alert within a half hour of her usual wake up time, we knew to call and check the cameras. Having this kind of information was really valuable.
It also told us what time she went to bed, and if she hadn't been active for a set period. Again, we were able to use this info to keep tabs on her.
In the end she stayed in her own home until after her 95th birthday and only spent a brief stay in hospital until passing away.
I highly recommend the iGuardStove and the subscription. It's definitely worth every penny. -
The IGuard stove monitor is the most amazing tool ever. My mom has dementia and lived in our cottage for 8 years basically on her own but next door to our main house so this tool kept me feeling very safe knowing that if she forgot the … More stove on it would automatically turn off in 10 minutes all on its own. I would highly recommend this tool to anyone who is worried about an elderly parent that uses a stove. We were able to lock off the oven so that mom only had access to the stove top which gave her some independence, but also notified me every time the stove turned on and if it ever needed to do a forced turn off as well. Then I could phone her to make sure she was ok. I can't say enough great things about this incredible tool.

I'd highly recommend the iGuardStove if your concerned about your loved one accidently leaving the stove on or you just want a non-intrusive way of making sure they are ok. My mom has dementia and this made it easy to confirm she was … More ok on the days she did not want to answer the phone. It has motion detection that sends just the right amount of text messages when she entered the kitchen after a while (or not at all during the day), or turned the stove on/off. Just plug it inline with their stove, connect to WiFi, and login to access the setup and see the logs, etc. The purchase price may seem high for some, but it is absolutely worth it for the peace of mind it gives. The alerts subscription service is less than $24/year, and Bill quickly and kindly responded to my emails.

I had the iGuardStove Intelligent model installed on my mother’s gas stove last year because of her Alzheimer’s. The protection that this device provides has allowed my mother to continue her greatest love … which is cooking for her children … More and grandchildren! The iGuardStove turns the stove off automatically if my mother leaves the kitchen for more than 5 minutes (which she often does because she is so used to multitasking … having raised 7 children). She has gotten used to having to remain in the kitchen to cook. This device has brought so much joy to my mother! We can honestly say that her quality of life has improved because of it! We also appreciate the feature of Night Lock, which prevents her from using the stove after hours (during bedtime). And we love the new feature called “Activity Monitor,” which allows us to monitor my mother’s activity in the kitchen through the built-in motion detector — this way, we can check if she is getting up during the night and wandering into the kitchen. This device is perfect for aging parents who still live independently but can sometimes be forgetful. We’ve had some close calls in the past (lots of burnt pot bottoms), but thanks to this device the stove shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity. … More One has to press a button to keep the stove on and because its conveniently located just next to the stove its not hassle at all if you’re already cooking. This device is worth every penny for the piece of mind it gives all of us. Originally purchased for the aforementioned feature but they have since updated the device’s firmware to utilize an infrared motion sensor that notifying me when someone enters the kitchen (usually first thing in the morning) with a Good Morning!, or when there’s been a period of motionless inactivity prompting me to check on them. The iGuardFire works perfectly! My gas plumber was easily able to install the solenoid valve, as well as mount the control unit to the underside of a kitchen cabinet. The unit doesn't even need to be connected to the internet; it's … More ready to go once you connect the ethernet cable that links the control unit and the solenoid valve. You can clearly and distinctly hear the valve open and close, so you know with absolute certainty what the valve position is. All you have to do is press the left-most button on the control unit that engages the "Start" command displayed on the LCD display, and the valve opens up. Press that same button to engage the "Stop" command, which displays after the valve is open. Best of all, the proximity sensor works great and has indeed shut off the solenoid valve whenever I was away from the stove for more than 5 minutes. This device has really taken a load off my mind because I cook all my meals first thing in the morning prior to going to my place of employment, so I sometimes wondered in the recent past whether or not I shut off the burners. Now that I have the iGuardFire, I don't even think about it anymore. I know it's quite an expensive device, but I'm truly glad I made the investment. One point of advice: make absolutely certain you know the size of your gas line. Almost all houses in the USA use 1/2" line, so if in doubt when you're on the iGuard shopping page, choose the 1/2" size valve. Worst case, if it turns out you needed 3/4" you can just have your gas plumber install reducer fittings on both ends of the valve to rectify the problem. Hope this review helps!

I got tired of cleaning my Mom's nine burnt up pots and decided to look for a solution. Mom is in her nineties and has Dementia. I did an internet search and leave it to the clever Canadians to come up with this fantastic device. I'm handy so I installed it myself on my mothers gas stove and now I can sleep at nights. I like the fact that it sends me a text when she fires up the stove and that lets me know she is up and moving around. I also get a text when she walks away and has to do a restart on the stove and that can be multiple times. It can be programed many different ways and wasn't to hard to set up. I did have to call once and got great service on the phone and got my issue squared away.
Very satisfied and it's been up and running for a year now.

Great product! While unfortunate, it is a common fact that many of us become forgetful and even confused as we age. My mother-in-law was no different, and would often leave things cooking. Sometimes, she would even turn on the wrong … More burner. She also had a habit of leaving wooden pot-warmers on top of the burners, because in her mind she was not using that burner. Many times, we would detect a "burnt" smell in her condo when we visited. This product was literally a life-saver. Easy to setup and manage remotely. My mother-in-law is in a nursing home now, and no longer gets near a stove. If you have loved ones that are starting to be forgetful or showing signs of confusion, I would highly, highly recommend you get this product.

I love the Iguard Fire, it is a godsend. My mom is 99 and still lies at home. She turns her stove on and forgets. This has saved us a lot of worrying. I recommend it for anyone that is a little forgetful at times.

The install, setup and sync, with the Wi-Fi was fairly easy for me, and I’m a novice with anything electrical or computer related. My mother has moderate Alzheimer’s. 15 months ago she left the stove on and melted the bottom off an aluminum clad stainless steel pot. I can’t say enough about how well this product performs for my circumstance. If she forgets the stove is on, it shuts off automatically, and I see the User History. ✭✭✭✭✭ I searched for two years for a product like this and I bought it as soon as I saw it. It has been 18 months since I installed the iGuardStove. I used the data that it collected to determine my mother’s eating habits and to determine if she was eating a hot meal on a regular basis and it also allowed me to chart a progression of her dementia. With the iGuardStove installed I gave me peace of mind that she was safe. The usage calendar had shown me that the stove had been activated up to six times a day. Each time I received the notification text that the stove had been shut off automatically, I called her to see if everything was ok. Stove safety has slowly entered memory muscle and is now the iGuardStove only shuts the stove off maybe once or twice a week with the same regular Stove usage.
It has allowed her to maintain her independence and live in her own home. If I was to put a dollar value on the actual savings to this point I would say in Retirement home fees alone it is near $70,000. It was a great investment.

✭✭✭✭✭ Here at Alfred University we are served by a volunteer fire department. They are the A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder Company. There would be weeks that they would respond to one of our program houses (Honors House) 2-3 times a week for what ended up being smoke from a pot left on the stove too long, something that someone overcooked because they were not paying attention, etc.
Recognizing we had a problem, and wanting to ensure the appropriate use of our volunteer fire department Alfred University started researching how to mitigate this issue.
